Earlier this month, the California Housing Partnership Corporation, in collaboration with the Sacramento Housing Alliance, released its annual housing needs data assessment for the Sacramento region, including Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Sutter and Yuba counties.
The report found that 55,711 low-income renter households in Sacramento County do not have access to an affordable home. It also revealed that renters in Sacramento County need to earn $32.23 per hour – 2.1 times the state minimum wage – to afford the average monthly asking rent of $1,676. The report highlights recommendations for policy changes at the state and local level that can support the production of the homes Sacramento residents so desperately need. Our recommendations include reviewing policies through an equity lens to affirmatively further fair housing and identifying new sources of local revenue for affordable homes.
