SHA is now booking affordable housing tours for employee groups, clubs, neighborhood associations and industry groups. Our affordable housing tours get rave reviews from participants of all experience levels! SHA will work with your group to design a tour focused on specific populations or a mix of housing types. Our tours can be geographically specific, focusing on Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and other surrounding counties.

Rachel Iskow, our former Executive Director, has narrated several tours for SHA and notes, “All the jurisdictions where we have led tours have exceptional affordable housing properties produced through partnerships of local, state, and federal governments and the private sector. Our SHA member organizations have developed beautiful communities throughout the region, including in Sacramento, Davis, Woodland, Roseville, and Folsom. These are often mistaken for market rate housing by passersby. It’s gratifying to participate in ‘outing’ these unique properties as high quality affordable housing.”

Past participants are not always people who are new to affordable housing. Some have worked behind the scenes to facilitate the development of these properties but don’t often get out to see the results of their work. Employees of financial institutions, local government, and state housing finance agencies have joined our tours, as have social workers, counselors and agency administrators in the public sector and in nonprofit organizations who serve low income people and often need to refer consumers to affordable housing.

SHA charges a fee to groups for the tours, to cover the cost of buses and to plan and execute the day’s trip. If your group needs help raising the funds for a tour, we can help with securing a sponsor.
