A new report by Next 10 reveals that California is falling far short of its housing needs due in part to a combination of restrictive single family zoning laws and flaws in the setting of goals through the Regional Housing Needs Assessment. In grading the state’s 539 jurisdictions, researchers found most regions are far behind goals and 100 jurisdictions have failed to participate in the reporting process. It will be be decades before some jurisdictions hit their goals and centuries for some very-low income housing goals.
