Funding for affordable housing eliminated
On December 29, 2011, The California Supreme Court issued a ruling that effectively abolished redevelopment agencies and with them the largest single source of funding for affordable homes and rental housing. Over the coming years the loss of this funding will result in thousands more Californians living on the streets and tens of thousands more living in overcrowded and substandard conditions.
Advocates from throughout the state have been meeting to develop a strategy to fix what was done. Nearly $1 billion dollars dedicated to affordable housing was lost with the elimination of redevelopment agencies. Read the press release from Housing CA.

2011: No Plan For Winter Shelter
Last week, SHA and Loaves and Fishes held a joint press conference to bring attention to the lack of funding for a winter shelter this year. There are less than 40 days until the date that Winter Shelter traditionally begins and there is still no plan for keeping families safe from a predicted cold, wet season.
Please contact the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and the City Council and let them know we cannot leave families out in the cold.
